Insurance FAQ

We know that having your roof replaced can be complicated. Especially when you’re trying to navigate the insurance process.

We thought it might be helpful to provide an outline of the process.

  • After you decide to submit a claim your insurance company will send out an adjuster to review the damage. The adjuster will complete an estimate of what they believe the insurance company should pay for. Several things influence this initial decision including:
  • The extent of the damage
  • The type of policy (ACV vs. RCV) and coverages
  • Your deductible (Your financial responsibility in covered insurance losses)
  • Building codes and local ordinances
  • The Insurance company will release the ACV (depreciated value) for the repair. This check should be forwarded to the contractor. The contractor will use this money to pay for the materials used for the repair of your roof and update your account to reflect this payment.
  • Your contractor should complete the repair in accordance with State and Local Building Codes.
  • Upon completion of the repair, the contractor will invoice your insurance company.  At this time, they should release the remainder of the monies set aside for your repair based on their original estimate. This check should also be forwarded to your contractor.
  • There may be other items invoiced that were missed during the initial inspection or were discovered during the repair process. These supplemental items are being submitted to your Insurance Company for review and consideration.
  • After review, your insurance company should issue an updated estimate, a revised summary of loss, and any required supplemental payments. When you receive this paperwork please send a copy, and any supplemental payments to your contractor. These revisions will be reviewed, the final invoice will be updated, and you should be contacted to review the final numbers.
  • Remember that the insurance company is paying you so that you can pay your contractor. While the Insurance Company and the contractor negotiate the final price, your personal financial responsibility should equal your policy deductible and any potential upgrades discussed with the contractor.
